Chinese Ambassador to Solomon Islands Cai Weiming Attends Handover Ceremony of China-aid Capital Public Facilities Reconstruction Project
On September 17, the handover ceremony of China-aid Capital Public Facilities Reconstruction Project was held at Honiara High School. Chinese Ambassador to Solomon Islands H.E. Cai Weiming, Minister of Finance and Treasury Hon. Rexon Ramofafia, Minister of Education and Human Resources Development Hon. Stephen Kumi, the Mayor of Honiara, representatives from the Prime Minister’s Office and Parliament, together with more than 300 guests from various sectors attended the ceremony.
Ambassador Cai stated that through the joint efforts of China and Solomon Islands, the Capital Public Facilities Reconstruction Project has been successfully completed and officially handed over. The project includes the reconstruction of the ceremonial leave-hut at the national parliament and the Honiara High School library, administration and teaching block, which were damaged during the 2021 turmoil. The completed facilities stand as a new symbol of the friendship between China and Solomon Islands. China appreciates Solomon Islands Government’s consistent adherence to the one-China principle, and will continue to conduct all-round cooperation with Solomon Islands under the Four Fully- respects Principle, and advance bilateral relations to a new level.
On behalf of Solomon Islands Government, Minister of Finance and Treasury Hon. Rexon Ramofafia and Minister of Education and Human Resources Development Hon. Stephen Kumi extended appreciation to the Government of the People's Republic of China for its assistance in rebuilding public facilities damaged during the 2021 turmoil. They noted that the handover of the facilities would further strengthen the friendship and comprehensive cooperation between Solomon Islands and China.
During the ceremony, teachers and students from Honiara High School performed dances to express their heartfelt gratitude for China’s assistance, creating a warm and festive atmosphere.
